Coaches & Education
Education, licensing and tools for coaches in Austrian ice hockey.
Where do you want to go?
Two paths
The coaching area serves two very different tasks: getting started in the education pathway, and the annual licensing. Pick the one you are here for.
New
I want to become a coach
The path starts with the C course at your regional association and leads via the instructor licence to the A coaching licence.
Licensed
I am renewing my licence
Before every season: proof of further training via the coaches platform, including at least one ÖEHV Coaches Clinic.
Club health
Club coaching
The club coaching programme run by ÖGK and the ÖEHV gives ice hockey clubs free access to tailored health services, helping them sustainably strengthen healthy club structures. The goal is to embed health topics permanently in everyday club life.
At the heart of the initiative is the training of health officers in participating clubs: they become the central point of contact for health topics. Building on this, so-called “on-demand seminars” are offered free of charge — seminars whose date and venue are individually coordinated with the respective club by ÖGK or the ÖEHV based on its needs.

Coaching concept
Rot-Weiß-Roter Faden
The Rot-Weiß-Rote Faden (red-white-red thread) is the coaching concept of Austrian ice hockey: from the playing philosophy for women, men and Para to long-term athlete development from first steps to U20, to practice planning, game principles and small area games.
The chapters
Introduction
The overall guide and the forewords by Klaus Hartmann and Roger Bader.
Austrian ice hockey
The ÖEHV's visions and goals as well as the playing philosophy for women, men and Para — and how it is meant to help players succeed internationally.
The coach
From season planning to core competencies: the role and development of the coach, leadership, coaching quality and well-being.
Long-term athlete development
What should be trained when, at what volume, and when should team tactics begin? Separate guides from beginners and U10 through to U20.
Training
What makes a high-quality practice session, which player roles exist, which game principles apply — including small area games and the primary needs of children.
The ÖEHV
The federation's fields of work: centre of competence, education pathway, integrity in ice hockey and officiating.
Tools
Platforms for licensed coaches
Access to the platforms runs through the ÖEHV licensing. The contact listed at the end of the page can help with questions about registration, portals and memberships.
Spond
Communication between the federation, coaches and national team staff, organisation of courses, handling of licensing, and home of the coaching network. Spond also hosts material from past development events as well as the current ÖEHV regulations and rules. Free of charge, as an app and in the browser. Registration is mandatory as part of licensing for all active coaches in ÖEHV leagues.
Register with SpondHockey Coach Vision
Through the cooperation with HCV, all coaches get free access to the ÖEHV portal with more than 500 development-specific drills, animated in 2D and 3D. A “Coach” account can optionally be purchased through licensing with a voucher worth 40 US dollars.
To the platformThe Coaches Site
Coaches holding a valid ÖEHV licence receive a TCS premium membership for 25 euros per season instead of the regular 150 US dollars. The option is selected during licensing on the online platform and paid via Spond.
To the platformCoachThem
A digital platform for practice planning and coaching development, used by 15 NHL teams and more than 250 ice hockey organisations worldwide: draw drills digitally, build practice plans, share content with your team and colleagues, and access everything rinkside via the iOS app. Licensed ÖEHV coaches receive discounted access via a voucher code.
To the platformThe code of conduct is part of every licensing process and applies to everyone working in Austrian ice hockey.
