No Ref's no Game! Without officials there is no game — the ÖEHV trains referees and linesmen, from the basic course to the international IIHF licence. The game needs you.
Requirements
Is this for me?
Women and men aged 14 and over can become officials. What you should bring:
- A passion for ice hockey
- Skating ability
- Basic knowledge of the ice hockey rulebook
- Basic knowledge of officiating signals
- Physical and mental resilience
- A confident manner and decisiveness
- Enjoying a challenge
- Teamwork and a willingness to learn
Education path
From basic course to international licence
1–2Getting started
Basic course and first assignments in the two-official system in youth and amateur hockey — as referee or linesman in junior hockey.
3–4National top level
Nomination for the top national competitions.
5International
International IIHF licence with seminars and assignments at World Championships and Olympic Games.

It varies between 60 and 400 euros per game.
It depends on the league: in professional hockey there are four — two referees and two linesmen. The leagues below use the three-official system (one referee, two linesmen) or the two-official system.
In German Schiedsrichter and Linienrichter, in English referee and linesperson.
The referee wears an orange or red armband, the linesman does not.
The numbers keep officials from being anonymous — and spectators in the arena should be able to identify them.
