League leaders Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel were not deterred by their recent defeat against former bottom side Celje and comfortably returned to winning ways against the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. The 3:0 win on Thursday evening allowed the Adler to once again pull clear of their two closest challengers, Rittner Buam and Red Bull Hockey Juniors.

While the “Buam” were not in action on Thursday, the Red Bull Hockey Juniors suffered a 0:3 defeat against EK Zeller Eisbären in the Salzburg derby. The Eisbären therefore responded impressively after their heavy defeat against KHL Sisak and cut the gap to the top-5 teams to one point.

High-flying Sisak continue their surge

KHL Sisak continued their impressive surge against last season's finalists S.G. Cortina Hafro. Following their narrow opening defeat against Jesenice, the league newcomers have recorded only emphatic wins: a 7:1 victory over Gherdeina and a 10:2 win against Zell were followed by an 8:4 away victory over Cortina. Vlastimil Dostalek scored a hat-trick. With their third emphatic win in a row, Sisak moved up to fourth place in the table – despite the Croatians having played at least two fewer games than the top-3 teams.

Derby wins for Meran and Celje

In the South Tyrol derby, HC Meran/o Pircher secured a 3:2 overtime win over HC Gherdeina valgardena, joining the top-5 teams. The hosts from Meran raced into a 2:0 lead, but Gherdeina hit back twice in the middle period to force overtime. Patrick Tomasini finally sealed the win in the final minute of overtime.

HK RST Pellet Celje claimed a 6:2 home win over HDD Jesenice in the Slovenian derby. The hosts from Celje were considerably more efficient than Jesenice from the outset and had built a 5:0 lead by the 44th minute. Jesenice rallied with two quick goals, but could no longer threaten their local rivals.
