Zeller Eisbären defeat Bregenzerwald – Kitzbühel lose to Jesenice

Almost 5.000 fans attended the four Alps Hockey League games on Saturday. League leaders Kitzbühel suffered a home defeat to Jesenice. While the other top-four teams, Zell am See against Bregenzerwald and KHL Sisak against Meran, celebrated home wins, the Unterland Cavaliers prevailed in Sterzing.

Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel’s winning run came to an end in the top-of-the-table clash against Jesenice. The Slovenians led 2:0 after eleven minutes, but Alexander Maxa brought the home side within one goal in the first period. After the restart, Maxa even levelled the score, and the game went into the third period at 2:2. The visitors proved clinical there: Tadej Cimzar scored first on the power play, before two goals from Gregor Koblar sealed the result and a 5:2 away win. The Slovenians thus moved up to third place.

More than 2.000 fans attended the game between second-placed Zeller Eisbären and bottom side Bregenzerwald. After a goalless first period – in which the visitors had their chances – the home side took the lead through Philipp Putnik in the 30th minute. Felix Koschek made it 2:0 shortly before the second intermission. While Nick Huard eventually completed the scoring, netminder Alois Schultes recorded his first shutout of the season. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Pinzgau side.

In front of more than 1.500 spectators, KHL Sisak celebrated their fifth win in their seventh game of the season. The Croatians beat Meran 4:2 despite falling behind. After the South Tyroleans' early lead, the league's top scorer Bruno Idzan turned the game in the hosts' favour with a brace. Sisak briefly extended their lead to 3:1 in the final period, but Chad Pietroniro brought the visitors back within one. Ultimately, Idzan completed his hat-trick to seal the win.

Unterland confirmed their sharply improving form – the Cavaliers had picked up points in five consecutive games before the match in Sterzing, winning three of them. The Neumarkt side took a 2:0 lead after the first period through goals from Murnieks and Pichler. The Broncos got back within one in the middle period, but two late goals secured a 4:1 away win for the Cavaliers. Unterland thereby moved up to eighth place.
