Youth: successes for the U15 and U16

Austria's U16 national team defeated Slovenia 3:1 at the 4 Nations Tournament in Fondo (ITA), while the U15 opened the "Gerhard Wilhelm Cup" in Kufstein with a 4:0 win over Hungary. The U20 against Denmark and the U18 against Hungary both suffered defeats.

U20 Head Coach Philipp Pinter: "After a real dream start and taking a 1:0 lead after just a few seconds, the team continued to deliver a very good performance. We were able to pin the Danes in their own zone and had significantly more time in the offensive zone than against Norway. The team implemented the game plan very well, but unfortunately we were a little undisciplined in the second period. We were punished with two power-play goals virtually out of nowhere. Nevertheless, I think there were many positives today. The special teams made the difference. Regardless of the result, we are heading in the right direction and I hope we can raise our performance again tomorrow."

U16 Head Coach Florian Mühlstein: "We made a very good start to the game and quickly took a 2:0 lead. The team pressed in the opposition zone for 20 minutes. After the first change of ends, the game became more even as we no longer brought the same energy onto the ice as in the first period. In the final period, the team responded by raising its performance once again, fought its way back into the game and rewarded itself with a deserved 3:1 win."

U15 Head Coach Peter Schweda: "The team was still too nervous in the first period, but nevertheless created some good scoring chances, where we were still a little too playful. We were able to control the game throughout the full 60 minutes. Hungary created three high-quality chances, which our goaltender superbly denied."
