YOG: Benedikt Hengelmüller replaces Johannes Dobro­volny

“The anticipation could not be greater; it is a huge honour to represent Austria,” beamed Benedikt Hengelmüller upon arriving at Vienna-Schwechat, where, after being welcomed by the team (“We all know each other!”), he first received his travel bag and immediately changed into the ÖOC outfit.

He will have time to think about what awaits him in South Korea on the flight. “It was a crazy day. I still have to mentally process what happened today, but I have twelve hours now,” said Hengelmüller to the ÖOC press team, which set off for South Korea with our ice hockey team. On the journey to Vienna-Schwechat, Hengelmüller sought tips by telephone from his sister Karoline, who won the bronze medal in the 3x3 competition at the 2020 Youth Olympic Winter Games in Lausanne four years ago.

The fourth Youth Olympic Winter Games will take place in Gangwon (KOR) from 19 January to 1 February, with around 1.900 athletes from 81 nations. Youth Olympic Team Austria comprises 61 athletes.
