Wörthersee Trophy: Austria finish home tour­na­ment in 3rd place after 4:1 win over Norway

It took Austria a few minutes to properly settle into the game. Norway took advantage of this early phase to use their first power play to take the lead in the 6th minute. Midway through the first period, Lena Dauböck struck for the first time, also on the power play, converting a Vanessa Picka assist to score a deserved equaliser. Right at the start of the second period, Austria's PWHL duo stepped up. Theresa Schafzahl set up Anna Meixner, who made it 2:1. Before the end of the middle period, in which Norway created more scoring chances overall, Lena Dauböck extended the lead to 3:1.

In the final period, in which Austria created several good scoring chances, Norway pulled their goaltender. Anna Meixner took advantage of winning possession in the final minute to score into the empty net and make it 4:1.

The Wörthersee Trophy brings this year's national-team season to an end for the women. They will make their first appearance at the Top Division World Championship in the autumn, facing the USA, Czechia, Switzerland and Germany in Herning (DEN). They will still complete an off-ice camp in May, while intensive work is currently under way on further preparations for the World Championship.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms: “Today was our best game of the entire tournament. For 60 minutes, we had hardly any poor phases, and the way we scored our goals also showed that we learned during the tournament. We still need to learn how to deal better with the physical game, but overall I am very pleased with the win.”

Captain Anna Meixner: “It was important for us to finish the tournament with a win. Overall, it was not the result we had hoped for from the tournament. We have plenty of work ahead of us for the future, but there were also a few things we are very pleased with. It is important for us to be there from the first minute, show our best straight away and not wait for the opposition before getting going. Overall, it was a good week with plenty of training and a tight schedule.
