Canada will once again host the IIHF World Junior Championship from 26 December 2022 to 5 January 2023.

Following the resumption in August in Edmonton of the U20 World Championship, which had been abandoned last December and was won by hosts Canada, the winter 2022/2023 tournament will be played in Halifax (Province of Nova Scotia) and Moncton (Province of New Brunswick).

Austria will face Sweden in their opening Group A game in Halifax at the Scotiabank Centre, which holds just under 10.600 fans, on 26 December 2022. The ÖEHV selection lost 0:6 to Tre Kronor in August at Rogers Place in Edmonton. The clash with the Czech Republic follows on Wednesday, 28 December 2022.

The game against hosts Canada follows on Friday, 30 December 2022 (29 December local time), before the traditional clash with Germany concludes the preliminary round. There are just 22 hours between the opening face-off against Canada and the face-off against Germany.

The game against their neighbours is also the first of two opportunities to achieve the objective of staying in the top division. The second opportunity to avoid relegation is the relegation round, played as a "Best-of-three", which begins on Monday, 2 January 2023.

Roger Bader, ÖEHV Men's Sports Director: "Canada, Sweden and the Czech Republic all reached the semi-finals at the U20 World Championship in August. That already shows the level of quality awaiting us in December. Germany also caused something of a surprise, but are nevertheless the nation closest to us. We have two opportunities to secure our place in the top division: the first is to finish above Germany in the standings. The second is to win a possible best-of-three relegation round."

All games at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship will be broadcast live on TSN and RDS.
