World Championship preparation: Bernd Wolf joins the team, Lukas Bär returns
For week #3 of preparations for the 2024 World Championship, Austria's Men's Ice Hockey National Team receives further reinforcements in the form of Bernd Wolf. With Maximilian Rebernig sidelined, Lukas Bär, who was part of the team in the first week, also returns. Austria will face World Championship hosts Czechia in warm-up games on 18 April in Budweis (CZE) and 20 April in Linz. Both games will be broadcast live on ORF SPORT +.

"The squad has remained almost unchanged compared to the second week. We are still without all the players from the two win2day ICE Hockey League finalists, as well as the players from North America, provided they are available and have been released. For the players currently involved, it is about putting themselves forward for the coming weeks and fighting for a place when the players from EC-KAC and Red Bull Salzburg join the team," explains Head Coach Roger Bader.
New to the team is Bernd Wolf, whose HC Lugano side was eliminated in the quarter-finals in Switzerland. Lukas Bär also returns after being part of the squad in the first week of preparations and playing both games against Latvia. Maximilian Rebernig is carrying an injury and will miss the remainder of the World Championship campaign.
On Thursday at 17:10, Austria will face Czechia away from home, followed by a game in front of a home crowd in Linz on Saturday at 18:00. "Czechia are a world-class team. The opposition will be even stronger than Slovenia this week. Czechia are a good team who will force us to take the next step. I believe we are capable of doing that. We need to process the last week well. The players looked tired from all the strength training we have done over the past two weeks, because we are looking at the bigger picture. I believe we will be able to take the next step," explains Roger Bader.
The National Team will meet in Linz on Monday and immediately complete its first training session. Five training sessions are scheduled before the first warm-up game against Czechia.
