Less than 24 hours after the 0:1 defeat in the first warm-up match against Hungary, Austria's women gained their revenge and further boosted their confidence ahead of the home World Championship. Hungary did make a perfect start, taking a 1:0 lead as early as the 5' mark. In an overall evenly matched contest, the team led by Head Coach Alexander Bröms was able to create more danger in front of the Hungarian net than on the previous day.
They were eventually rewarded for their persistent work on the power play. Tamina Schall took matters into her own hands and equalised at 1:1. In the final period, the Austrians increasingly controlled the puck and their opponents, but were unable to put the game to bed. Annika Fazokas finally scored the deserved winner in overtime against the team relegated from the Top Division.
Next Wednesday, the national team will convene in Klagenfurt for its final World Championship preparations and begin the home World Championship against Norway on 21 April. All matches will be broadcast live on ORF SPORT +.
Tamina Schall: "We set out to create more scoring chances, score more goals and be solid defensively. We set ourselves many objectives and implemented all of them well. Especially in the third period, you could see that we were the team that wanted to win more. In the end, we were rewarded for that. We are all happy that it will be getting underway soon. This World Championship is very special to me, as I am from Klagenfurt. I am looking forward to playing in front of friends and family, and to having the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd in general."
