World Championship preparation: Austria aiming to make waves in Oslo with a young team
In Oslo (NOR), a national team with an average age of under 23 will contest the Four Nations tournament against France, Denmark and Norway. Newly naturalised Austrian Atte Tolvanen, Sweden-based Benedikt Oschgan and Luca Erne are included for the first time.

Due to injuries and illnesses, as well as to rest some experienced players, numerous up-and-coming players will have the opportunity next week to prove themselves and stake their claim in the national team. The squad for the Four Nations tournament in Oslo includes three debutants: goaltenders Benedikt Oschgan and Atte Tolvanen, and Pioneers forward Luca Erne.
In the Norwegian capital, Austria will first face France on Friday and, depending on the outcome of the match, the winner or loser of Norway vs. Denmark on Saturday. Apart from Oschgan and Gregor Biber, all players taking to the ice play in the domestic win2day ICE Hockey League.
Head Coach Roger Bader: "I am really looking forward to seeing this young group perform. We decided to go into the February break with this young squad and use the opportunity to assess players. Every player called up to the national team has a chance of taking part in the World Championship with me. The players can stake their claim for the next assignments in Oslo and make their mark. At the same time, we also want to give some established players a break in the middle of this intense season."
Although the roster is extremely young, it also includes experienced and World Championship-tested players such as Nico Brunner, Nico Feldner, Paul Huber, Thimo Nickl, Paul Stapelfeldt and Henrik Neubauer.
"Once again, we want to impress with direct, fast ice hockey. In France, Denmark and Norway, we face three established top-division nations, some of whom are ranked above us in the world rankings. Our aim is to compete as often as possible against nations ahead of us in the rankings so that we can take the next step and reach the level required at a World Championship during our preparation," said Roger Bader.
