World Cham­pi­onship 2025: Head Coach Roger Bader names World Cham­pi­onship squad

Following Sunday evening’s final warm-up game in Vienna against Canada ahead of the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, which begins on Friday in Stockholm (SWE) and Herning (DEN), Head Coach Roger Bader has finalised his World Championship squad. It includes a total of seven players who will be taking part in a top-division World Championship for the first time.

The ÖEHV contingent flying to Stockholm on Tuesday afternoon comprises 25 players: Roger Bader has selected three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 13 forwards. The squad includes seven World Championship debutants: Atte Tolvanen, Florian Vorauer, Gregor Biber, Luis Lindner, Ramon Schnetzer (note: he was in Prague last year but did not play a game), Lukas Kainz and Nikolaus Kraus.

The red-white-red players bring more than 1.500 international caps of experience onto the ice. David Kickert, Dominique Heinrich, Bernd Wolf, Lukas Haudum and Thomas Raffl are five players in the squad who have already reached three figures in this category.

Overall, the core of the national team has come together over the past few years, as Rafll and Heinrich also emphasised during a press conference last Friday.

Of the squad that trained in Vienna in recent days, three players are now on standby: Nico Feldner, Patrick Söllinger and Leon Wallner.

Head Coach Roger Bader: "These were extremely close decisions, because these three players would equally have deserved to be included on the basis of their qualities and commitment. Nevertheless, decisions had to be made. They were not decisions against anyone, but decisions in favour of someone else. The players have different strengths. They remain on standby, as players can be added to the squad this year in the event of an injury."

Austria’s World Championship opener against Finland in Stockholm (SWE) takes place on 9 May at 16:20, live on ORF 1.
