Women’s World Cham­pi­onship Divi­sion IA 2024 in Klagen­furt

“Carinthia is one of Austria’s ice hockey strongholds, with two traditional clubs in the top men’s league, the win2day ICE Hockey League. In the coming years, the Federal Performance Centre for women’s ice hockey will also be established here. Both the city of Klagenfurt and the newly renovated Heidi-Horten-Arena offer ideal conditions for hosting the Women’s World Championship 2024. Our aim is to be the perfect hosts and generate the greatest possible attention for women’s ice hockey,” explains Klaus Hartmann, ÖEHV President.

The World Championship was originally scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China, as it did in 2023. China had secured the World Championship Division IA for three years. Due to its promotion to the Top Division last August, a new host had to be selected.

ÖEHV did not hesitate for a second and was awarded the tournament at the IIHF Congress in Portugal on 6 October. Yasmin Stepina, ÖEHV Vice-President for Women’s Ice Hockey: “With the venue now confirmed, all preparations for next year’s World Championship are getting under way. It represents an important piece of the puzzle in the further professionalisation of Austrian women’s ice hockey. We are generally working on a range of projects involving both the national teams and the domestic leagues, with the aim of creating new momentum.”
