Women’s national team holds training camp in Dorn­birn and faces Germany in friend­lies

“We now have another opportunity to continue working on our playbook and internalise certain tactics. Overall, it is about working on important details in our game,” explains Head Coach Alexander Bröms when outlining what awaits his players in Dornbirn. 

The team will take to the ice for the first time on Thursday afternoon. The first game against Germany is already scheduled for Saturday. Their neighbours are already in the midst of preparations for the Olympic Games. The German squad is already close to the Olympic roster, as DEB Head Coach Jeff MacLeod explains: “The squad for the upcoming camp is already very close to the potential team for the Olympic Games. That is why it is important that we come together as a unit and go through our structure again. The games against Austria will also provide us with a good opponent, allowing us to assess our team under competitive conditions.”

That this represents a major challenge for Austria is also emphasised by Alexander Bröms: “They will be tough games. I like the opportunity to play two games in a row in which we can train the mental aspect of facing the same opponent twice.”

While Germany are fine-tuning their Olympic roster, the focus in the Austrian camp is on scouting for the 2026 World Championship, which will be held from 6 to 16 November. Austria will play their group-stage games in Herning (DEN), with the second venue yet to be confirmed.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms: “The squad for this training camp includes several players who have not yet been part of the team this season, as well as some young players who will make their debut against Germany. We are looking forward to the training camp and to playing some good games against a strong opponent.”

The two PWHL players Anna Meixner and Theresa Schafzahl will be unavailable, although both recently scored their first goals of the season. Schafzahl scored in Boston Fleet’s 4:1 win over Minnesota Frost last Sunday, while Meixner scored the fourth goal in Ottawa Charge’s 5:1 win over the Vancouver Goldeneyes on 26 November.
