Women’s National Team: 3:1 win over Kaza­khstan

Feldkirch had waited almost eight years for the Women’s National Team to return. And the return was immediately a successful one. With several overseas- or Scandinavia-based players absent, a number of young players were given their opportunity, including 16-year-old Leonie Kutzer.

At the end of the first period, Austria trailed 0:1 after Darya Dmitriyeva scored at exactly 17:40. Just 1:41 into the second period, Charlotte Wittich provided the more than deserved equaliser.

Austria ultimately controlled the third period, especially in its early stages. A quick double strike within 114 seconds from Jessica Ekrt and Laura Kraus gave their team a 3:1 lead, which they would not relinquish.

Austria ultimately prevailed 3:1, with Head Coach Jari Risku able to give every player ice time. The team will travel to Milan on Sunday with a positive result behind them, where they will face Italy.

We are on the right track, and we are continuing to add more depth to the squad. We had hoped for a good game against Kazakhstan, especially in front of our own fans, but our expectations were exceeded. Several players rose above themselves and delivered an almost perfect performance. That shows we do not need to have any major concerns about the future of Austrian women’s ice hockey."
