Women launch home World Cham­pi­onship mission in Zell am See

From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship Division IA. Next week, the women's national team will come together for the first time this year and play two friendly matches against the Netherlands in Zell am See on 9 and 10 February.

Head Coach Alexander Bröms has called up 24 players for next week's team camp in Zell am See, including Sweden-based Anna Meixner and Selma Luggin, Switzerland-based Annika Fazokas and Leonie Kutzer, as well as Hanna Obermayr of Stanstead College Varsity in Canada. This also marks the start of the crucial phase of World Championship preparations, with just over ten weeks to go before the tournament begins and the aim of securing promotion to the Top Division for the first time with home advantage behind them.

The Netherlands, Austria's friendly opponents, will also be their final opponents at the Division IA World Championship on 27 April. Head Coach Alexander Bröms: "First and foremost, I am very pleased that, apart from the players overseas, we can work with almost the entire national team. It is the final team camp before we move into the final World Championship preparations. We will once again work on certain details. It is important that we take the next step in doing so, and we will also begin preparing mentally for our home World Championship. The two friendly matches against the Netherlands are important for building a good feeling and, hopefully, leaving Zell am See with two positive experiences."

2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024

From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea for promotion to the Top Division. After 2009 and 2017, it is the third Women’s World Championship on Austrian ice.
