Women boost confi­dence with 1:0 win over France

Austria’s women won their final warm-up game before the home World Championship against France in Klagenfurt on Thursday evening. Annika Fazokas scored the winner after a lightning start, 34 seconds into the game. The Austrian side generally caught France off guard with their high tempo and enjoyed clearly more possession early on. As the game progressed, it became an evenly matched contest in which Austria particularly excelled defensively.

Annika Fazokas: "It was nice to see that our system works when we stick to the plan. But it was also clear that it gets tight when we do not stick to it. We still need to work a little on our power play and penalty killing. We now need to recover well and prepare well so that we feel fit when it starts on Sunday. We are ready."

2024 IIHF ICE HOCKEY WOMEN´S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

From 21 to 27 April 2024, Klagenfurt will host the 2024 IIHF Ice Hockey Women´s World Championship 2024. Austria will face Hungary, France, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea for promotion to the Top Division. After 2009 and 2017, it will be the third Women’s World Championship on Austrian ice.
