win2day ICE Hockey League schedule 2025/2026: Opening weekend block­buster!

Friday is the moment of truth: the win2day ICE Hockey League begins its new season. Following the pre-season, the 13 teams competing in the multinational championship face their first real test at the start of the campaign. The new season will be played as a double round-robin format, with 48 games per team. A lively discussion panel at the win2day studio in Vienna marked the start of the season.

The new win2day ICE Hockey League season gets under way on Friday, 12 September 2025. With the exception of Moser Medical Graz99ers, all other twelve teams will be in action on the opening day. The highlight of the first matchday is a repeat of the semi-final between HCB Südtirol Alperia and EC Red Bull Salzburg.

 

Just two days later, the first repeat of the final will take place between defending champions EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC-KAC – the game will be shown live on ORF 1 for the first time.


Season-opening talk from the win2day studio



Ahead of the opening game, Georg Wawer (Managing Director of title sponsor win2day), League Managing Director Christian Feichtinger and new ORF pundit Dominique Heinrich discussed the upcoming season. In addition to looking back at the successful previous season, the discussions focused on new developments for the coming campaign, the successes of the ÖEHV national teams and the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League – the full video is available with English subtitles.


Format

The format remains unchanged: the regular season comprises two home-and-away rounds, with a total of 48 games per team. This means a total of 312 games are scheduled, with each team facing every other team four times. The teams finishing first to sixth qualify directly for the quarter-finals. The teams in seventh to tenth place contest the pre-play-offs in a “best of 3” format. The two winners complete the quarter-final line-up. The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played in the usual “best of 7” format. The win2day ICE Hockey League champion will be decided no later than Wednesday, 29 April 2026.



Eight games live on ORF 1

In the coming season, the win2day ICE Hockey League will be broadcast live on ORF 1 for the first time. Four regular-season games will be shown live there, while up to 30 games in Austria per season will be broadcast free-to-air on ORF, including a total of eight playoff games on ORF 1.

All games on Sportdeutschland.TV

From the 2025/26 season onwards, all games will be shown by new streaming partner Sportdeutschland.TV. The established platform, with more than ten years of experience in live sports streaming, will take the ICE experience for fans to the next level. The partnership includes structured measures to support the clubs in streaming and signal production, as well as the production of all game highlights and additional editorial content, particularly content for social media.
