win2day ICE Hockey League schedule 2024/2025: Season starts with block­buster weekend!

Two exciting discussion panels at the win2day studio in Vienna ushered in the new ice hockey season. League President Alexander Gruber spoke with League Manager Christian Feichtinger and Wolfgang Jethan from win2day about the upcoming win2day ICE Hockey League season. The development and objectives of the newly established win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League were also discussed with ÖEHV Vice-President Yasmin Stepina.

Format

The 2024/25 win2day ICE Hockey League season begins on Friday, 20 September 2024. The regular season, which runs until the end of February, will be played in two home-and-away rounds, with 48 games per team. All 13 teams will therefore play each other four times in a total of 312 games. The regular matchdays of Tuesday, Friday and Sunday will remain in place.

Pre-playoffs again
The teams finishing first to sixth after the regular season qualify directly for the quarter-finals. The teams in seventh to tenth place will contest the pre-playoffs in a best-of-3 format, with the seventh-placed team able to choose whether to face the ninth- or tenth-placed team. The winners of the two series complete the quarter-final field.

The quarter-final match-ups will again be determined in a playoff pick. The top-3 teams after the regular season select their opponents. The fourth-placed team is not available for selection and will face the team not chosen in the pick.

Best-of-7 playoffs
The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will all be played in a best-of-7 format. The first team to record four wins advances to the next round. In the semi-finals, the highest-ranked team will face the team with the lowest regular-season ranking.

Overtime rules in the postseason
From the pre-playoffs onwards, if the score is level after regulation time, continuous sudden-death overtime will be played. In non-clinching games, the number of skaters will be reduced after the first full 20-minute overtime period to three players plus one goaltender per team. In clinching games, five-on-five will be played until the winning goal is scored.

win2day ICE Hockey League on ORF SPORT + and Puls 24

The win2day ICE Hockey League has awarded the TV rights for the 2024/25 season to ORF and the ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 Group. The two broadcasters ORF SPORT + and PULS 24 will show up to 46 games live and exclusively on free-to-air TV and via stream on JOYN in the coming season.
