win2day AWHL: VSV Lady Hawks sensa­tion­ally inflict cham­pions Sabres’ first defeat

Villach came from an early deficit against the reigning AWHL champions: Ashley Taciuk initially put St. Pölten ahead, but Adela Vavrova turned the game around with a brace in the first period. Siri Zimmermann made it 3:1 in the second period. Despite a late goal to pull one back and a five-minute penalty kill, the Hawks kept their nerve – Liga Miljone sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Although St. Pölten registered more than twice as many shots, the title holders had to accept their first AWHL defeat of the season.

EVB Eagles South Tyrol further extended their position at the top of the European Women’s Hockey League with a 5:1 away win over Lakers Kärnten, who had more shots on goal overall. Bolzano took a 2:0 lead after less than three minutes thanks to a Kristen Guerriero brace. The score was 3:1 after the first period before the Eagles struck twice more in the final period.

DEC Salzburg Eagles claimed a narrow win, beating MAC Budapest 2:1 after a penalty shootout. Goaltender Kristiana Apsite was the match winner with 37 saves. Gabrielle Davidson put Salzburg ahead in the final period, before Tamara Gondos equalised shortly before the end of regulation time. Rebecca Clarke ultimately secured the home win in the shootout.

After six unsuccessful attempts, Graz99ers Huskies were finally able to celebrate for the first time: the Styrian side won their seventh game of the season 1:0 against Budapest Jegkorong Akademia. Goaltender Veronika Padelkova shone with 34 saves and a shutout, while Tamara Grascher scored the game-winning goal in the 44th minute.
