win2day AWHL: Sabres St. Pölten win show­down for victory in the Place­ment Round

Following the Regular Season, Sabres St. Pölten have now also narrowly won the Placement Round of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League. In the direct showdown for victory, the St. Pölten side claimed a 4:3 win. The Sabres made a strong start to the game and were already 2:0 ahead after twelve minutes. The home side added to their tally in the second period and temporarily extended their lead to 4:0.

However, the Highlanders stepped up the pace in the final period, while the Sabres struggled with a number of penalties. Three power-play goals saw KSV fight back to 3:4 – the final goal came just under a minute from the end. However, the Highlanders were unable to find the goal that would have sent the game into overtime.

EC Graz99ers Huskies celebrated a 5:3 win over the Villach Lady Hawks in their final AWHL game before the Final-4, for which the Graz side had already secured qualification before this game. However, the visitors from Villach made the better start, taking the lead as early as the fifth minute.

Graz equalised twice in the second period, but Villach had a swift response on both occasions and promptly regained the lead twice. In the final period, the Grascher couple then put on a fireworks display: Tamara and Simona Grascher scored three goals within ten minutes to turn the game in favour of the Huskies. Simona Grascher recorded five points in total (three goals, two assists), while Tamara Grascher registered an impressive four points with two goals and two assists.
