win2day AWHL: Lakers Kärnten cele­brate victory over the Graz Huskies

At the Family Day of the Moser Medical Graz99ers – who subsequently played their win2day ICE Hockey League game against spusu Vienna Capitals – Sunday saw the meeting between EC Graz Huskies and Lakers Kärnten. It was the first game in the newly founded win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League for both teams.

The visitors from Carinthia were dominant from the outset and took the lead through Reaghan Pietrowski in the eighth minute. Shortly before the first intermission, Valentina Ropatsch made it 2:0. The Lakers' victory was never in doubt, with Kimberly Collard scoring the final 3:0 in the 35th minute. Goaltender Anja Adamitsch recorded the first AWHL shutout. In the opening game of the new league, Sabres St. Pölten celebrated a 5:1 home win over KSV Highlanders.

In the European Women’s Hockey League, Aisulu Almaty claimed their second victory over Tauron Metropolia Silesia within 24 hours. Following the 3:0 win the previous day, the favourites prevailed 4:0 on Sunday. The game was effectively decided in the first period, when Almaty scored three goals in less than three minutes. Roxanne Rioux added the final goal in the third period. It was already the sixth defeat of the season for the Polish team.

Following the 0:3 defeat away to Budapest Jegkorong Akademia, there was also nothing to be gained for the DEC Salzburg Eagles in the second game of their Hungarian road trip. The Austrians suffered a clear 0:9 defeat away to MAC Budapest. The hosts took the lead in the eighth minute and steadily extended it. Alexandra Ronai and Lara Strobl each scored twice. While MAC have nine points from three games, the Salzburg side are still waiting for their first point.

A day after Eagles South Tyrol suffered their first defeat of the season in St. Pölten, the team from Bolzano completed a comeback win away to KSV Highlanders. The hosts led 2:0 and 3:1 in the first period, but ultimately narrowly missed out on their first point. The Eagles scored a quick goal to reduce the deficit in the middle period, before a quick double shortly before the end of the period from Elena Perathoner and Kristin Della Rovere turned the game in favour of the South Tyroleans, who also defended their lead at the top of the table with the 4:3 victory.
