win2day AWHL: KSV High­landers win again against Lakers Kärnten

The KSV Highlanders' 4:1 win was the Styrian side's second victory over Lakers Kärnten this season. On 13 October, they narrowly prevailed 4:3 in Klagenfurt. Overall, it was their third win in the win2day Austrian Women´s Hockey League in four games, leaving the Highlanders top of the table, followed by Lakers Kärnten, who suffered their second defeat in four games on Sunday.

This time, however, the match was not as evenly balanced as the last encounter. KSV were already 3:0 ahead after 14 minutes. It then took until the 45th minute before the Lakers reduced the deficit to 1:3 while short-handed. However, the Carinthian side were unable to add any further goals. The hosts finally sealed the result with an empty-net goal four seconds before the end.

EWHL: Wins for Silesia and MAC

In the European Women´s Hockey League, Tauron Metropolia Silesia gained revenge against Sabres St. Pölten. While St. Pölten won 5:1 on Saturday, Silesia narrowly prevailed 4:3 on Sunday. It was the Polish side's first win in eight games, while the Sabres suffered their first defeat in regulation time in their seventh game. The Lower Austrian side are fourth in the table.

In Sunday's match, which, like Saturday's, was played at the St. Pölten Eissportzentrum NÖ, Silesia took the lead with thirteen seconds remaining in the first period. After 40 minutes, the Polish side led 3:2. In the final period, St. Pölten equalised early through Kinga Jokai-Szilagyi.

It was the forward's second goal of the game. The score remained 3:3 until 59 seconds before the end, when Joanna Strzelecka secured the win for Silesia after all. The defender had previously scored to put her side 3:1 ahead.

MAC Budapest also recorded a 5:2 away win at DEC Salzburg Eagles. The Salzburg side therefore remain without a win after six games this season. MAC, meanwhile, claimed their fifth win in seven games and are fifth in the table. Although the Hungarian side conceded early against the Eagles, two goals from Tamara Gondos turned the game around before the end of the first period.

In the middle period, the visitors extended their lead to 4:2, with MAC finally sealing the result three and a half minutes before the end.
