win2day AWHL: KSV High­landers face Lakers Kärnten and Sabres St. Pölten in double-header

Sabres St. Pölten currently lead the Placement Round of the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League with seven points, followed by Lakers Kärnten on three and KSV Highlanders on two. While the Sabres and Lakers each have one game remaining, the Highlanders will play twice more.

With two wins, the Styrian side could take over at the top of the table and advance to the Final-4 in Linz as the top-seeded team. The Highlanders first host the Lakers on Saturday, having narrowly lost 1:2 in the first meeting in Carinthia. Just one day later, they visit the Sabres, whom they beat 2:1 in overtime in their first encounter.

In the Qualification Round, Graz99ers Huskies face Villach Lady Hawks this weekend. Graz have an unassailable eight-point lead at the top of the table and have already qualified for the Final-4. Villach, meanwhile, remain bottom of the table without a point after two games. In the first meeting, the Lady Hawks lost 3:6 to the 99ers. The Qualification Round concludes on 09 March, when Salzburg face Villach.

European Women’s Hockey League

The European Women’s Hockey League also has exciting ice hockey on the schedule this weekend. On Friday evening, league leaders HK PSRZ Bratislava face their nearest challengers EVB Eagles South Tyrol in a top-of-the-table clash. The two teams are separated by six points. The South Tyrolean side narrowly won the first meeting of the season 4:3. Budapest’s city derby is also scheduled for Saturday, with seventh-placed Budapest Jegkorong Akademia taking on fifth-placed MAC Budapest.
