win2day AWHL: Cham­pions Sabres St. Pölten cele­brate convincing win at Graz99ers Huskies

Sabres St. Pölten gave Graz99ers Huskies no chance and celebrated a convincing 7:1 victory. The visitors were already 3:0 ahead after the first period and extended their lead to 4:0 in the second. The hosts did manage a consolation goal four minutes from time, but the Sabres added two more goals. Jaime Magoffin stood out as player of the game with two goals and three assists.

KSV Highlanders secured a clear 9:3 win at VSV Lady Hawks. The Carinthian side initially took the lead, but the Highlanders turned the game around and were already 5:1 ahead by the 28th minute. In the end, it was a convincing victory for the Styrians, with Marielle Dijkema outstanding on two goals and three assists, and Lena Dauböck contributing two goals and two assists.

European Women’s Hockey League

In the European Women’s Hockey League, Aisulu Almaty recorded a comfortable 9:2 victory over eleventh-placed Tauron Metropolia Silesia. The Kazakh side had already prevailed 6:4 in the same matchup on Saturday. Aisulu led only narrowly, 2:1, after the first period, but pulled away to 7:2 in the middle period. Two further goals in the final period ultimately underlined the victory for the still unbeaten league leaders. Breanne Trotter and Katherina Birkby each scored twice.

In the second game of the day, MAC Budapest prevailed 5:1 over DEC Salzburg Eagles. It was Salzburg’s first defeat in their third game, while Budapest recorded their first win in their second game of the season. After a scoreless opening 30 minutes, MAC pulled clear to 4:0 by the 56th minute before the visitors scored a consolation goal. However, the home side had the final say through Emily Baxter, the only player to score twice.

On Saturday, league leaders Aisulu Almaty won a thrilling clash with Tauron Metropolia Silesia. EVB Eagles South Tyrol and DEC Salzburg Eagles also celebrated shutout victories.

Tauron Metropolia Silesia and Aisulu Almaty served up an intense encounter. The reigning EWHL champions were already 3:0 ahead after 19 minutes, before the hosts stepped up their game in the second period and temporarily turned the contest around to lead 4:3. But Almaty then hit back impressively: three goals within four and a half minutes set the Kazakhs firmly on course for victory. Breanne Trotter was the matchwinner with two goals and an assist.

Second-placed EVB Eagles South Tyrol gave Lakers Kärnten no chance in front of their home crowd. Annalisa Giuliani gave her team an early lead – and went on to celebrate a hat-trick. The Eagles pulled decisively clear to 5:0 in the middle period and ultimately prevailed comfortably 8:0.

DEC Salzburg Eagles also won their second game of the season and moved up to third place in the table. The Salzburg side prevailed 1:0 away to Budapest Jegkorong Akademia. Goaltender Kristiana Apsite recorded a shutout with 34 saves. Agnese Apsite scored the decisive goal in the 25th minute – remarkably, while short-handed.

Sabres St. Pölten had already won on Friday. The Lower Austrians prevailed 2:1 over HK PSRZ Bratislava at home on Friday evening. The visitors from Bratislava made the better start and took the lead through Lucia Karkoskova in the 10th minute. However, the Sabres responded immediately: Anna Taciuk equalised just two minutes later. The game then developed into an even contest with chances at both ends. Hannah Obermayr eventually scored the decisive goal in the 46th minute to make it 2:1 at the final whistle. Both teams had 21 shots on goal in total and were unsuccessful on the power play.
