win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League: victories for Lakers Kärnten and Sabres St. Pölten
Several games were on the schedule in the win2day Austrian Women’s Hockey League and the European Women’s Hockey League on Saturday. While Sabres St. Pölten celebrated a convincing victory in Salzburg, Lakers Kärnten prevailed in their head-to-head clash with the Graz99ers Huskies. In the EWHL, Aisulu Almaty won again, MAC Budapest claimed the home game against Tauron Metropolia Silesia and EVB Eagles South Tyrol came out on top in overtime in the top-of-the-table clash against the KSV Highlanders.

Sabres St. Pölten impressively demonstrated their current strong form in Salzburg. The champions claimed a clear 9:1 victory at DEC Salzburg Eagles, thereby defending their place at the top of the AWHL table. The visitors were already 5:0 ahead after the first period.
In the second AWHL game of the day, Lakers Kärnten celebrated their first win of the season in front of their home crowd. Against the Graz99ers Huskies, the team laid the foundations for the 4:1 victory in the opening period.
European Women’s Hockey League
HK PSRZ Bratislava had already claimed a convincing 6:0 win over the Graz99ers Huskies on Friday. It was the Slovakians’ second win in their fourth game and the Styrians’ third defeat. Defending champions Aisulu Almaty continued their winning streak, beating VSV Lady Hawks 5:1 at home. The Kazakhs remain top of the table with a perfect six wins from six games.
The 99ers initially kept pace well, but Laura Jancsoova gave Bratislava the lead in the 23rd minute. The visitors added three more goals in the second period. In the final period, Alexandra Hirjakova completed her brace before Bianka Kostkova sealed the 6:0 final score with her second goal, eleven seconds before the end.
MAC Budapest won the home game against Tauron Metropolia Silesia 4:1. Baxter was the match-winner, scoring three goals.
The clash in Bolzano between EVB Eagles South Tyrol and KSV Highlanders provided plenty of excitement. The visitors took the lead in the first period, but the Eagles fought their way back. Pierri secured the 3:2 victory in overtime for the South Tyroleans, who collected important points in the battle for the top places.
