Following their 7:1 win over league leaders Jesenice, Rittner Buam SkyAlps followed up with another emphatic victory. The South Tyroleans claimed an 8:1 win over KHL Sisak to move within two points of Jesenice. The “Buam” were the dominant side from the outset, taking the lead after just 22 seconds and building a 5:0 advantage in the opening period. Sisak were unable to mount a comeback and ultimately suffered their third consecutive defeat. Diego Cuglietto scored twice for Ritten and also registered an assist.
After two consecutive defeats, EK Zeller Eisbären are back to winning ways and have increased the pressure on league leaders Jesenice. Zell claimed a 5:3 win over Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan on Thursday evening, with the Broncos gradually losing touch with the top-5 teams. The “Eisbären” made a strong start and had built a 3:0 lead by the 27-minute mark. The Broncos did reduce the deficit to two goals on three occasions, but were no longer able to seriously threaten Zell.
HC Gherdeina celebrated their third victory in the last five games, confirming their upward trend. Gröden had previously lost six games in a row and had temporarily found themselves bottom of the table. Cortina, meanwhile, missed the opportunity to further consolidate their place in the top 5, even though they took a point from Gherdeina. In a low-scoring game, the hosts from Gröden took the lead on the power play. Cortina equalised in the second period. After a scoreless final period, Davide Schiavone secured the win in overtime.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors won for the second time in their last three games and remain in touch with the lower third of the table. The Salzburg side beat Hockey Unterland Cavaliers 5:3 on Thursday evening. The Austrian hosts had built a 2:0 lead by the 21-minute mark and maintained their two-goal advantage for the next 20 minutes. However, the Cavaliers battled back in the final period and equalised by the 51-minute mark. Salzburg responded promptly with a power-play goal and ultimately prevailed 5:3.
