VEU Feld­kirch defeat Dorn­birn in derby – UHT Dukes Graz win derby against ATSE Graz

The Dornbirner EC and VEU Feldkirch contested their fourth Vorarlberg derby. The team from Montfortstadt had won the previous three encounters.

The young Bulldogs made a fantastic start to the game and took a 2:0 lead with two quick goals. First, Tobias Metzler-Wagner fired home a one-timer on the power play, giving VEU goaltender Fabian Pozzera no chance (6.). Exactly 40 seconds later, Tiziano Butteri scored (6.). Following Dornbirn's lightning start, VEU initially had to find their way into the game, but did so just under four minutes before the end of the period: Rupert Fichtinger cut the deficit to 1:2 from the right face-off circle (16.).

The team coached by head coach Lars Foder made the better start to the second period. Leon Peischler was played perfectly into the slot and beat DEC netminder David Bernhard to make it 2:2 (23.) Three minutes later, Fabio Haas deflected the puck out of the air to give VEU a 3:2 lead (26.). The goal was initially disallowed by the referee for an alleged high stick, but following consultation with his assistants, it was awarded.

Just under seven minutes later, the visitors added another: Aaron Matt made it 4:2 after deflecting the puck out of the air (33.). Only 21 seconds later, the Bulldogs pulled one back, with Maid Meduseljac scoring from close range to make it 3:4 (33.). Exactly two seconds before the end of the period, VEU restored their two-goal lead: Joonatan Kyllönen converted a rebound following a save by Dornbirn netminder Bernhard to make it 5:3 (40.). 

VEU made a lightning start to the third period and Yannick Wiedner increased their lead to 6:3 from the right face-off circle after 17 seconds (41.). Stefan Leitner scored from the slot for Dornbirn to make it 4:6 (47.). The Bulldogs' hopes were short-lived, however, as Feldkirch responded immediately just 23 seconds later through Dominik Hron to make it 7:4 (47.).

Fabio Haas then wrapped things up with his second goal for VEU, sending the puck home to make it 8:4 (51.). The hosts could only add a consolation goal on the power play through Stefan Leitner to make it 5:8 (54.). Feldkirch celebrated their fourth victory in their fourth derby against the Bulldogs.

The game between SC Samina Hohenems and EHC Crocodiles Kundl was cancelled on Saturday due to poor weather, with a new date to follow.

Dukes Graz win derby against ATSE

The UHT Dukes Graz and ATSE Graz contested their second Graz city derby of the season in Liebenau on Saturday. The local clash remained close for a long time: Sebastian Höffernig gave the hosts a 1:0 lead (8.). ATSE Graz equalised on the power play through Andreas Meixner (14.). In the second period, Moritz Stradner put Universitäts Hockey Team back in front (25.).

The game was only decided in the final period, when Cornelius Kaschnig first increased the Dukes' lead to 3:1 (46.). Just under eight minutes later, Erol Alp made it 4:1 to effectively seal the win (54.). Cornelius Kaschnig added 5:1 on the power play with his second goal (57.). Having won 5:2 in the first derby in mid-November, UHT Dukes Graz also claimed victory in their second meeting with their local rivals and drew level with Sharks Gmunden in the standings.

The two matches Kapfenberger SV against Wiener Eislauf-Verein on Saturday and EV Zeltweg Murtal Lions against UEHV RAUCH Technology Sharks Gmunden on Sunday have been cancelled due to numerous illness-related absences among the Viennese and Upper Austrian sides; information on the rescheduled dates will follow.
