Very strong! Austria’s U16 women edge Germany 3:2 in Zeltweg

Austria’s U16 Women’s Ice Hockey National Team played a Four Nations Tournament in Zeltweg during the IIHF February break. The ÖEHV selection won the prestige clash against Germany 3:2 in the final game. Austria’s goals were scored by Annika Amon (at 20, PP1), Johanna Sintschnig (at 41) and Anna Brandtner (at 58, PP1). Austria ultimately finished third behind Poland and Norway.

Head Coach Tomáš Kala placed his trust in goaltender Rosalie Hohenwarter-Sodek for the final game against Germany at the Aichfeldhalle. The ÖEHV selection fell 0:1 behind after just under 16 minutes following a goal by Emma Grewe (at 17). Four seconds before the first buzzer, Annika Amon scored Austria’s 1:1 on the power play (at 20). Germany regained the lead in the second period, with Lina Alberts converting a player advantage for 2:1 (at 25). 

 

Austria kept the game open and levelled at 2:2 early in the final period through leading scorer Johanna Sintschnig – her fourth goal in Zeltweg – after 37 seconds (at 41).


The contest was now wide open again and remained exciting. Just as everyone was expecting overtime, Anna Brandtner struck on the power play to score Austria’s much-celebrated winning goal for 3:2 three minutes from time (at 58). The ÖEHV selection ultimately finished third behind tournament winners Poland and Norway.
