USA crowned world cham­pions in Stock­holm in 2025 after over­time win over Switzer­land

In a high-quality, fast-paced final, particularly in the first period, the score was 0:0 after 60 minutes before Tage Thompson scored with a sensational shot after exactly 02:02 of three-on-three overtime to seal a 1:0 victory for the USA. Switzerland had to accept their fourth final defeat after 2013, 2018 and 2024 and settle for the silver medal.

For the USA, it is their third world championship title and their first since 1960. At that time, the Olympic victory in Squaw Valley also counted as a world championship title. Before then, the Americans had only won the world title in Prague in 1933. 

Third place and the bronze medal went to hosts Sweden after a 6:2 victory over Denmark in the third-place game.

Austria finished an outstanding eighth in the final standings with ten points from four wins – two of them after a penalty shoot-out – their best placing in 31 years.
