U20 World Championship: Head Coach Pinter names final squad
The squad for the U20 World Championship Division IA had to be reduced to 23 players (20 skaters, 3 goaltenders). It was difficult for the coaching staff led by U20 Head Coach Philipp Pinter to settle on this final squad. The team is now confirmed and can hardly wait for the World Championship opener on Monday at 12:30, live on krone.at, in Bled (SLO). They gained confidence for the tournament with wins over Slovenia and Hungary in their final warm-up matches.

“It was a close race,” reveals Philipp Pinter. The Villach native and his coaching staff conducted an intensive analysis. The decisions were difficult: “It leaves a bitter taste because all the players are healthy, fit and performed well. But it is also part of the job to make tough decisions and send home players who did not deserve it at all.”
Nevertheless, the 23 players fit the coaches’ vision perfectly. “Everyone has a clearly defined role, which they should fulfil to the best of their ability and with pride. We have a good mix, with Paul Sintschnig, a U16 player, and further U18 players in the squad.”
No one in the team can wait for the World Championship to finally begin. “We are ready, the mood is excellent. We have a difficult tournament ahead of us. The opponents are very good, so anything is possible,” stresses Philipp Pinter, who identifies Norway and Denmark as the favourites and expects Slovenia to play a strong role.
They will face all of this with a clear system, says Pinter: “Our motto is: win the day. Once we have won the first one, we look to the next, and we never look back either. We try to stay in the moment and focus on that one day and that one training session. We will have good speed in the team, with a physically strong, big and mobile defence, and a forward mix of size, skills and speed.”
