U20 World Champions! Canada celebrate a summer fairytale
Record winners Canada are the world champions of the IIHF World Junior Championship 2022. The hosts defeated Finland 3:2 after overtime in a genuine thriller in the final. Sweden claimed the bronze medal after beating the Czech Republic 3:1 in the third-place game.

Canada led 2:0 at Edmonton's Rogers Place in front of 13.327 fans before the Finns levelled the score at 2:2 in the final period. Kent Johnson fired the Maple Leafs to their 19th U20 World Championship title after exactly 3:20 of overtime. Sweden finished third after a 3:1 win over the Czech Republic.
The next U20 World Championship will once again be held in Canada, and the groups for the IIHF World Junior Championship 2023 have already been drawn. Austria will play in Group A in Halifax against the reigning champions Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Germany.
