U20 Men win second World Championship warm-up too – 4:1 against hosts Hungary

Austria's U20 men's national ice hockey team also won their second warm-up game ahead of the U20 World Championship Division IA in Bled (SLO). Head Coach Philipp Pinter's team came from 0:1 down to beat hosts Hungary 4:1 in Budapest. The ÖEHV selection had already celebrated a 4:2 victory over Slovenia on Thursday afternoon. The ÖEHV delegation will relocate to Bled for the World Championship on Saturday, where their opening game against France takes place at midday on Monday.

The two sides were evenly matched for two periods. Hungary took a 1:0 lead in the opening period, before Austria equalised through Johannes Neumann early in the second.

Back on the ice after the second interval, the team, which had been significantly changed from yesterday, played their best period. Matthias Lexer (at 43) and Adrian Gesson (at 45) gave Austria a deserved 3:1 lead within two minutes. Oliver Lam eventually sealed the 4:1 final score with an empty-net goal.

Head Coach Philipp Pinter: "It was a close game for a long time, but we stuck to our game plan very consistently, were very aggressive and tactically better organised than yesterday. We gave away little in the final period, created several big chances and deservedly took a 3:1 lead. The team rewarded their committed performance with the empty-netter at the end. Today, we gave some younger players the opportunity to put themselves in the shop window. Several players on the bubble were able to show what they can do on the international stage. The boys have given us a sleepless night as we make the decision on which final squad will travel to Bled."
