U18 World Championship Division IB: Peter Schweda finalises World Championship team and tests against Fehervar U21 on Wednesday
Austria’s squad for the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship Division I, Group B comprises 20 players plus three goaltenders. Head Coach Peter Schweda has selected seven defencemen and 13 forwards. On Wednesday evening, the team will play one final warm-up game against the Fehervar Hockey Academy U21, who are set to provide the ÖEHV selection with the finishing touches ahead of the World Championship in Tallinn (EST) from 25 April to 1 May.

“Everything is currently going according to plan. We are looking forward to the warm-up game against the Fehervar Hockey Academy U21 and to the World Championship itself. We will fly to Tallinn as early as Thursday after the warm-up game, and begin the World Championship against Italy on Saturday,” looks aheadHead Coach Peter Schwedato the days ahead with anticipation.
The squad for the World Championship has been selected. The three objectives set for the preparation period have almost been ticked off, asPeter Schwedaexplains: “Our first objective was to take the final step towards the World Championship in terms of cohesion and standards. That has been ticked off. The same applies to selecting the squad and allocating roles within the lines and among the players. After the warm-up game, we will also be able to tick off the third objective, namely how and what we play. All players are clear on the how. The what is the tactical aspect, and we will work on that against Fehervar’s U21.”
With only a few exceptions, the World Championship squad matches that from the February break, during which the team played two games against top-flight nation Denmark and another against Ukraine, who compete in Division IA. Austria opened by beating Denmark 5:2.
While the Danes were promoted to the Top Division in the U18 age group last year, Austria had to drop down to Division IB solely because they lost the head-to-head meeting against Hungary.
