U18 World Championship Division IB: Austria return to winning ways with a 7:4 victory over Estonia
Two days after the 1:3 defeat to France at the U18 World Championship Division IB in Tallinn (EST), Austria returned to winning ways. They were involved in a heated battle with World Championship hosts Estonia, in which they showed the stronger nerves. They were 1:3 down in the first period but levelled at 3:3 before the first break. They took the lead for the first time in the middle period and finally sealed the game in the final period. After three games, they now have two wins and one defeat. Their next opponents are South Korea on Thursday. Watch live from 15:00 on the Krone livestream.

Almost everything that could go wrong did go wrong for the ÖEHV side in the first period. They conceded the 0:1 after less than two minutes, but responded quickly through Emil Wagner (5). A minute later, they were behind again after Estonia converted a penalty. The World Championship hosts even extended their lead to 3:1 on the power play, but nobody in the red-white-red camp let their heads drop.
Quite the opposite. They picked themselves up, motivated one another and levelled the scores before the break thanks to two quick goals from Paul Sintschnig. In the middle period, they were initially unfortunate with a shot off the post and another off the crossbar. At 34 minutes, Johannes Dobrovolny finally rewarded his team with a deserved first lead. Estonia equalised once more, but Felix Baumann made it 5:4 on a two-man advantage shortly before the break.
Thanks to Niclas Micelli, they extended their lead to 6:4 shortly after the start of the final period and from then on controlled proceedings completely. The highlight was a shorthanded goal from Vitus Plank to make the final score 7:4.
Head Coach Peter Schweda: "We played well and were dominant at five-on-five. But because of broken plays, the penalty against us and various penalties, it was a crazy first period. However, thanks to the unity of the leadership group, nobody became negative on the bench. We pulled together and got the game over the line."
