U18 World Championship Division IB: Austria beat Italy 4:1 in opening game
A perfect start for Austria's U18 men's national team at the World Championship Division IB in Tallinn (EST). They celebrated a 4:1 victory over Italy and will face France in game 2 on Sunday. "It was a real hard-fought win," summarised Head Coach Peter Schweda the opening-game victory. From start to finish, his team delivered a solid team performance, taking a 2:0 lead in the first period through goals from Lennart Leitner and Paul Sintschnig.
Italy pulled back to 1:2 immediately after the start of the second period, and shortly afterwards both teams failed to capitalise on a power play. However, Johannes Dobrovolny was on hand in the 35th minute to make it 3:1 for Austria. The ÖEHV selection created more chances overall than their opponents and converted another one in the final period, with David Niederleitner scoring on the power play to seal the 4:1 final score.
Head Coach Peter Schweda: "As nice as this victory is, it has already been ticked off. We are now preparing for tomorrow's game, will first analyse France on video and then hold a meeting with the team."
