U18 World Cham­pi­onship: Austria lose to South Korea after over­time

Austria’s women started the game against South Korea at the Nockhalle at a high tempo and with good attacking play, testing the strong goalkeeper Inhye Jang from the outset.

After several good opportunities, Karolina Hengelmüller on the power play to give Head Coach's team a 1:0 lead (12th minute)Mario Bellina. South Korea responded late in the first period with Eunji Lee's 1:1 equaliser, also on the power play (18th minute).

Austria's U18 side remained on top, but were unable to turn that dominance into goals. Shortly before the end, events came thick and fast: out of nowhere, South Korea took the lead through Nayeon Kim (57th minute). Austria battled back and levelled through Hanna Obermayer to 2:2 (58nd minute).

In overtime, it took exactly 36 seconds for Nayeon Kim to score her second goal in three-on-three play and secure South Korea's 3:2 victory (61nd minute).

Austria’s World Championship campaign continues on Wednesday. In the second game of the day, they face Poland, once again from 19:00 at the Nockhalle Radenthein and via the Livestream on Eishockey LIVE.
