U18 Women's World Cham­pi­onship: Austria bounce back with emphatic win over Australia

Following Tuesday's bitter 2:4 defeat to China, Austria's U18 women's national team responded immediately at the 2026 IIHF Women's U18 World Championship, Division IB. They celebrated an emphatic 11:0 win over Australia to temporarily take top spot in the standings. The team coached by head coach Arto Sieppi continue against Spain in Katowice, Poland, on Saturday at 20:00.

The right response at the right time. Against Australia, they not only made a dream start, taking a 2:0 lead after just 82 seconds of play, but continued to score at almost three-minute intervals. With a 6:0 lead after the first period, the game was all but decided.

They continued to dominate the game and their opponents in the middle period, with Vanessa Picka making it 7:0. Their superiority was further underlined by another four goals in the final period.

Head coach Arto Sieppi was accordingly pleased as he reflected:Head Coach Arto Sieppi: "Three points that we are happy to take. We are very pleased with the way the players rose to the challenge. They did not take the game lightly. We started the game with a lot of pace and were able to score early. Even though we only managed one goal in the middle period, the performance in the second period was okay. We continued to apply pressure and ultimately secured a convincing win."
