U18 Women lose to Hungary in a shoot-out

At the start of the Four Nations Tournament in Füssen (GER), Austria's U18 Women's National Team suffered a 2:3 shoot-out defeat to Hungary. Hana Ostadal (at 10) and Serena Unger (at 50) scored Austria's goals. They continue against Slovakia on Saturday at 13:00.

Hana Ostadal gave Austria a deserved 1:0 lead in a strong first period. Austria played with discipline throughout the opening 20 minutes, with the players always close to their opponents, giving them little space and thereby controlling the game.

They then eased off slightly in the second period. Hungary used the space to first equalise on the power play at 30 and then take the lead shortly before the break.

Mario Bellina responded by reshuffling the lines. Successfully. Serena Unger equalised at 50. Overtime brought no decision, with Hungary ultimately prevailing in the shoot-out.

Mario Bellina: "This game served its purpose. It is a preparatory game for the World Championship, and Hungary are a direct opponent who have also fielded a strong line-up. If we stick to our game plan, we are competitive and can cause these teams problems. It is important that everyone stays within the system. Tomorrow, we will probably start with the line-up that we finished with today. We have not played against Slovakia in this age group for a long time, so we do not know what to expect. We will see how the players implement the instructions. It is a learning process and, above all, we want to prepare well for the World Championship."
