Austria initially came through two consecutive penalty kills unscathed, but the hosts were dominant and repeatedly pinned the red-white-red team in their own zone. Austria's defence, together with goaltender Kiara Matt, resisted the opening goal for a long time, but it was only a matter of time: Timea Scurkova gave Norway a 1:0 lead in the 14th minute. The hosts held a 24:2 shot advantage after the opening 20 minutes.

The Norwegians remained dominant in the second period, but repeatedly came up against goaltender Kiara Matt, whose very good performance kept the deficit narrow. Edle Rise Moe made it 2:0 just under three and a half minutes before the end of the period. Neither team scored in the final period, with Norway comfortably seeing out the game.

Norway will be one of Austria's opponents at the World Championship in Budapest in early January, alongside Germany, Italy, Hungary and France. The second match follows on Saturday at 17:00 and will once again be available via the Krone.at livestream.
