Austria's second opponent at the Gentoftehallen was Latvia, who, like Norway, will compete at the U18 World Championship in Finland in April. Austria once again made a good start and took the lead through Felix Haiböck at 1:0 (4). As against Norway, the Red-White-Reds conceded a late equaliser shortly before the first intermission, exactly seven seconds before the siren. Just after the halfway point of the game, Latvia took the lead for the first time.
In the final period, Latvia extended their lead to 3:1 on a 5:3 power play, before a quick double strike within 48 seconds made it 5:1 (52). Austria scored again to make it 2:5 through Constantin Humer three minutes from time (57).
Austria face hosts Denmark on Saturday to conclude the tournament, a World Championship opponent for the Red-White-Reds in April.
