U18 national team loses to Italy in Bled after a penalty shoot-out
Austria’s U18 men’s national ice hockey team is taking part in a four-nation tournament in Bled and Jesenice during the November break. In their opening game, the ÖEHV selection lost 2:3 to their Italian counterparts after a penalty shoot-out.

Italy led the ÖEHV selection coached by Head Coach Mathias Lange 1:0 after the first period. Lange is leading the U18 in place of Philipp Pinter, who is in Denmark with the U20 national team. Kevin Mandl equalised at 1:1 with 51 seconds remaining in the second period (40.). In the final period, Austria took a 2:1 lead through a goal by Jakob Sintschnig (46.).
However, Italy equalised just under five minutes before the final siren, sending the game into overtime. No decision came in overtime, and the showdown known as a penalty shoot-out followed. Leon Buzek was the only Austrian to score, while the Azzurri converted two attempts to leave the ice as 3:2 winners.
