U18 men lose to Ukraine 1:7
The team made a successful start to the home tournament in St. Pölten with a 5:2 win over Denmark on Thursday, but Denmark responded with a 4:1 win on Saturday, before Austria lost 1:7 to Ukraine in Sunday's final game. The tournament was already part of preparations for the Division IB World Championship, taking place from 25 April to 1 May in Tallinn (EST), where Austria will face Lithuania, South Korea, France, Estonia and Italy.

Head Coach Peter Schweda: "We started the game well. Overall, it was a completely different game to the one against Denmark. What we lacked were goals in the first two periods. At times, we played too complicated a game. A certain degree of mental fatigue became apparent in the final period. Ukraine were fresher and, overall, presented themselves as a tenacious team with strong skating. As this mental fatigue set in, the penalties also began to pile up. Looking at the whole week, we gained important insights. On the one hand, regarding certain player roles – which players we see in which positions with a view to the World Championship – and, on the other, how we need to plan in order to avoid this mental fatigue. In any case, we are already looking forward to the World Championship."
