Jonathan Oschgan put Austria ahead after exactly 22 seconds (1.); Hungary responded relatively quickly with the equaliser. Ben Öfner (49.) and Tristan Schall (53.) set the ÖEHV selection on course for victory in the final period. Things became hectic again at the end, with Hungary reducing the deficit to 2:3, but goaltender Martin Haim held on to secure the narrow opening win.

Florian Mühlstein, U16 head coach: "After our early opening goal, an even game developed against Hungary. Although Hungary were technically superior throughout the game, our team showed that the balance of play can certainly be tilted in our favour through commitment and hard, simple ice hockey. Smart decisions in building play and in transition meant that the opposition had few opportunities to apply pressure. Most of their shots came from the outside, while our goaltender Martin Haim was able to deal with the dangerous ones. In general, the goaltender's extremely solid performance often settled the game. Blocked shots and physical play led our team to victory."
