U16: Key insights gained for the YOG 2024
Next January, the U16 national team, led by Head Coach Florian Mühlstein, will be granted a special honour as they travel to Gangwon in South Korea for the Youth Olympic Winter Games. From 19 January to 01 February, the region will host the fourth Youth Olympic Winter Games in history. The U16 will compete in the new 3x3 format. Head Coach Florian Mühlstein is allowed to take eleven skaters and two goaltenders with him. Training and scouting took place last week in preparation.

“Taking part in the Youth Olympic Winter Games is a fantastic opportunity. It is one of the biggest events in winter sports, and there is already great anticipation,” said Florian Mühlstein, who was able to train with his selection at the Red Bull Academy last week and also played test matches against Poland.
"At the beginning, we did not know what to expect, as we had never played in this new 3x3 format before," admitted Mühlstein. But the insights gained last week exceeded expectations: "There is constant body and stick contact. It is exactly what helps us develop players. The 45-second shift periods also make the intensity enormous."
The matches against Poland quickly showed what the team can expect in this format. They also gained important insights into what works, how the players respond, what they can implement and what is feasible.
The coaching staff will now use the time for intensive video analysis in order to be as well prepared as possible for the Youth Olympic Games.
