Following the death of Gerhard Wilhelm, the initiator of the Kufstein Cup, his sons Tobias and Thomas are continuing this traditional tournament under its new title, the "Gerhard Wilhelm Cup".
The tournament is an important part of youth development and offers every player a unique opportunity to test themselves internationally. They made an impressive start in their opening game. After a scoreless first period, Emil Wagner put Austria 1:0 ahead early in the second period (23rd minute). Head Coach Peter Schweda’s team added 2:0 shortly before the end of the period, with Paul Schuster scoring from a Lucas Hartl assist (39th minute).
This tandem also made it 3:0 in the final period to all but seal the result (49th minute). Paul Sintschnig completed the scoring at 4:0 (53rd minute). Goaltender Gabriel Lemberger turned aside all 21 shots on his net to record a shutout.
U15 Head Coach Peter Schweda: "The team was still too nervous in the first period, although we created some good scoring chances that we were a little too playful with. We were able to control the game throughout the full 60 minutes. Hungary created three high-quality chances, all of which our goaltender stopped superbly."
