U13 and U17 begin championship phase 2

Until just a few days ago, the final games of championship phase 1 in the U13 and U17 age groups were still being played, and the first fixtures of phase 2 have already been completed. All teams return to action next weekend. The final battle for the play-off places has begun, and via LIVE.eishockey.at, you will not miss a goal, a puck drop or a moment of celebration!

The procedure for the U17 age group is quickly explained. The top 5 from phase 1 have already secured their play-off places and will now compete in phase 2 in a home-and-away round robin for the best possible seeding, which remains highly significant for the final series. The teams ranked 6 to 10 in phase 1 will also compete in a home-and-away round robin for the remaining three play-off places. No points were carried over from phase 1; everything was reset to zero.

The quarter-final match-ups will ultimately be as follows: 1st vs. 8th (= 3rd in the qualifying group), 2nd vs. 7th (= 2nd in the qualifying group), 3rd vs. 6th (= 1st in the qualifying group) and 4th vs. 5th. The series will be played in a best-of-three format, with the higher-ranked club after phase 2 starting with two home games (H/H/A).

Standings, schedules and results: U17 Championship

The procedure for the U13 is somewhat more complex. After phase 1, it is divided into three groups. The teams ranked 1-4 after completing phase 1 qualify directly for the “Upper Playoff” and play a placement round in “Group #1” in a 1,5-fold home-and-away round robin.

The teams ranked 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13 in “Group #2” play a qualifying round in a single home-and-away round robin. After the completion of phase 2, the two highest-ranked clubs in this “Group #2” qualify for the “Upper Playoff”. The three lowest-ranked clubs continue in phase 3 with the “Lower Playoff”.

The teams ranked 6, 8, 10, 12 & 14 in “Group #3” play a qualifying round in a single home-and-away round robin. After the completion of phase 2, the two highest-ranked clubs in this “Group #3” qualify for the “Upper Playoff”. The three lowest-ranked clubs continue in phase 3 with the “Lower Playoff”.

In phase 3, the competition is split into an “Upper & Lower Playoff”. The teams taking part in the “Upper Playoff” compete for the Austrian U13 championship title as well as the respective placings.

The highest-ranked winner after phase 2 will play the lowest-ranked winner after phase 2 in the subsequent series. The highest-ranked loser after phase 2 will play the lowest-ranked loser after phase 2 in the subsequent series.

The teams taking part in the “Lower Playoff” compete for the respective placings. In all play-off series, the higher-ranked club after phase 2 starts with two home games.
