The Washington Capitals celebrate a comfortable 6:3 victory over the New York Rangers, who no longer have any chance of qualifying for the play-offs this year. Michael Raffl also takes centre stage. The Villach native, who has only recently been wearing the Capitals jersey, records two assists. He sets up Conor Sheary's 2:0 at the 16-minute mark and also plays a major part in Nicklas Backstrom's decisive 5:3 at the 52-minute mark.

The 32-year-old has three shots and logs 15:35 minutes of ice time. Superstar Alexander Ovechkin is the tragic figure after, following four missed games with a "Lower Body Injury", he spends just 39 seconds on the ice before not feeling well enough to continue and potentially having to sit out further games.

With their 38th win in their 52nd game of the season, the Capitals (33-14-5) regain top spot in the East Division ahead of the Pittsburgh Penguins (34-16-3) and the Boston Bruins (31-14-6).

For only the second time since 2006, the Edmonton Oilers can look forward to a place in the NHL play-offs. The Canadians secure their ticket with a 5:3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena. Connor McDavid once again plays a huge part in the Oilers' march to success, contributing two goals and two assists against Vancouver.
