Having always shown game highlights in various formats since the league was re-established, Austria's public broadcaster ORF will now provide live coverage from the ice rinks during the 2024/2025 ICE season: ORF SPORT + will show up to 21 games, including twelve in the regular season. For the decisive games in the final, there will be live coverage on both PULS 24 and ORF SPORT + for the first time.
ORF Head of Sport Hannes Aigelsreiter: “Ice hockey in Austria is booming, and the national team's achievements at the most recent IIHF World Championship tournaments have been more than remarkable. The foundation for this is, of course, the win2day ICE Hockey League, whose arenas are superbly filled matchday after matchday and which generates excellent viewing figures. This makes us all the more delighted that, alongside the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, for example, league games will now also be shown on ORF. ORF would like to thank the new league board for the trust it has placed in us by entering into an innovative media partnership with private and public-service broadcasters in the interests of all ice hockey fans.”
League President Dr. Alexander Gruber: “One of the new board's most important objectives is to increase the reach of our sport. It is therefore all the more pleasing that we will enter the new season with two strong partners. Over the past four years, we have already built a great deal together through our consistently professional collaboration with PULS 24. In addition, through its coverage of the Champions Hockey League and the national team, we know how highly ORF values ice hockey, and we look forward to taking the next steps together here as well. Through these partnerships and the league's live streaming, we can offer even broader live coverage of the win2day ICE Hockey League and attract new fans.”
PULS 24 enters its fifth ice hockey season
Ice hockey has been a permanent part of PULS 24's programming since 2020, and in the recent play-offs the win2day ICE Hockey League even set a ratings record: finals games six and seven between EC-KAC and EC Red Bull Salzburg made PULS 24 the strongest private TV broadcaster in primetime across the entire Austrian television market. Up to 29 games will be broadcast during the 2024/2025 season on PULS 24, Austria's free superstreamer JOYN and puls24.at. In addition to seven regular-season games, PULS 24 and JOYN will show one game per play-off matchday from the quarter-finals onwards.
Mario Lenz, Managing Director of Current Productions, PULS 4: “We want to provide our viewers on PULS 24 and JOYN with the best possible range of sports content. The win2day ICE Hockey League is one of the most attractive domestic sports leagues, as the thrilling final series last season also demonstrated. We are delighted to extend the partnership and look forward to many exciting games.”
