Three new goaltenders, three new defencemen & four new forwards – Austria begins week #3
The Austrian men's national ice hockey team begins its third week of preparation for the 2025 World Championship with a strength session today, Monday. Ten new players join the squad from today. They will face reigning world champions Czechia in warm-up games on 17 April in Znojmo (CZE) and on 19 April in Linz. The away fixture will once again be shown live on Krone TV. David Kickert, Benedikt Oschgan and Florian Vorauer will do everything they can this week to prevent the reigning world champions from scoring. They will be supported, among others, by defencemen Dominique Heinrich, Patrick Söllinger and Niklas Würschl, as well as forwards Benjamin Baumgartner, Nico Feldner, Manuel Ganahl and Lukas Haudum, who also join the national team this week.
This brings the total experience added in the third week of preparation for the 2025 World Championship to 633 international appearances. The players from EC Red Bull Salzburg and EC-KAC are then expected to join the squad from next week.
“There are some very experienced players involved from this week. Our plan from the outset was for the first three weeks of preparation to be about giving match practice again to those players who had not been on the ice for a long time. This first phase ends this week,”Head Coach Roger Bader explains.
Now, all players need to stake their claim for the fourth week. They will have two opportunities to do so against world champions Czechia: Thursday at 19:00 in Znojmo (CZE), and Saturday at 17:30 in Linz.
